Doctoral position in Mathematical Physics

The Mathematical Physics group at Heidelberg University invites applications for a doctoral position in mathematical physics, starting in Fall 2026.

The successful candidate will conduct research toward a doctoral degree in either physics or mathematics under the supervision of Prof. J. Walcher, and in collaboration with other group members, in a stimulating internationally oriented academic environment. Research interests of the group center around supersymmetric quantum field theory and string dualities, including arithmetic aspects of mirror symmetry and homological methods of supersymmetric representation theory. Participation in teaching activities will be required at a limited level.

Applicants must hold a Master’s degree in physics or mathematics, and have a strong background across both fields. The appointment is initially for three years and is paid according to the German public sector pay scale TV-L E13 (50%).

To apply, please submit a curriculum vitae, academic transcripts (Bachelor and Master), and a brief description of research interests as a single PDF file, by email to physmath@mathi.uni-heidelberg.de. At least two letters of recommendation should be sent separately to the same email address. Review of applications will begin on June 15, 2026 and will continue until the position is filled.

For further information, please contact: Prof. Johannes Walcher, Institute for Mathematics, Im Neuenheimer Feld 205, 69120 Heidelberg, Germany. walcher@uni-heidelberg.de
