Mathematical Physics

Postdoctoral Position in Physics and Number Theory

The Mathematical Physics group at Heidelberg University invites applications for a postdoctoral position at the interface of arithmetic geometry and quantum field theory, starting in Fall 2026.

The position is part of the project “D-branes on Calabi-Yau manifolds and conjectures in arithmetic geometry”, funded by the Baden-Württemberg Foundation through the program “International Excellence in Research”. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to join an international network of mathematicians and physicists working on connections between Calabi-Yau geometry, Hodge theory, and mathematical physics, with a focus on the computation of enumerative and arithmetic invariants.

Applicants must hold a doctoral degree in physics or mathematics, demonstrate research experience in relevant areas, and show readiness for interdisciplinary work as well as some computational expertise.

The appointment will be initially for two years and is paid according to the German public sector pay scale TV-L E13.

To apply, please submit a curriculum vitae, a list of publications, and a statement of research interests as a single PDF file, by email to physmath@mathi.uni-heidelberg.de. At least two letters of recommendation should be sent separately to the same email address. Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled.

For further information, please contact: Prof. Johannes Walcher, Institute for Mathematics, Im Neuenheimer Feld 205, 69120 Heidelberg, Germany. walcher@uni-heidelberg.de
